The Letter I Wrote about Former Majority Leader McConnell.

Personally, if Senator Mitch McConnell told me that he fights every day to protect my right to vote and protect our election process from cheating, I wouldn’t believe him.

If given a chance to converse with him, I would outline some reasons why I wouldn’t and still don’t trust him. First, I would bring up how the House of Representatives has passed five significant pieces of legislation that not only protect everyone’s right to vote but strengthen our election systems from being tampered with.

The first act I will discuss is called the “For the People” Act. It was sponsored by Representative Sarbanes from the state of Maryland. This act calls for a massive voting rights package to combat voter suppression, simplify voter registration, make Election Day a federal holiday, and enhances election security. Unfortunately, Senator Mitchell McConnell used his authority of filibustering the act, and it will remain in his legislation graveyard.

Second, I would discuss how he also killed another critical piece of legislation, passed by the House of Representatives, the Equality Act. It was sponsored by Representative Cicilline from the state of Rhode Island. The Equality Act prohibits discrimination based on sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity in work, housing, healthcare, and other public spaces. The bill hasn’t progressed in the senate committee since May 2019.

Lastly, I would bring up how he also killed another essential piece of legislation passed by most House of Representatives, the “Securing America’s Federal Elections” Act. It was sponsored by Representative Lofgren from the state of Florida. This bill strengthens voting-counting software requirements to protect our elections from tampering by foreign or domestic enemies.

So with these three significant pieces of legislation being spoken about, I can genuinely say without a doubt that Senate Majority McConnell couldn’t tell me a false promise without me holding him accountable. He’s just another politician that puts partisan interests before his constituents from the state of Kentucky.

Sincerely,

(Insert every American who stands for equality and democracy)
